10-year-old Ryder is learning the art of cold-processed soapmaking from his Granny, the master soap maker at Faerhaven. The Man Bar is his first creation.
Under Granny's watchful eye, Ryder carefully measures all the ingredients, and is assisted with the mixing and pouring of the extremely hot lye/water mixture. He has learned that soap is made by mixing an acid (oils)with a base (lye/water mixture) and that with the chemical reaction that occurs from those two ingredients, it becomes a salt (soap).
After stirring and bringing the mixture to a light trace, he pours the liquid into the molds. The next day he pops them out of the molds and puts them on the shelf to cure for 4-6 weeks.
